About Jaipur — The Pink City of India

Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is one of India's most magnificent cities. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it was India's first planned city, designed according to Vastu Shastra principles. In 2019, Jaipur was designated a UNESCO World Heritage City.

Why "The Pink City"?

In 1876, the entire old city was painted terracotta pink to welcome Prince Albert and Queen Victoria. The tradition has endured, and today Jaipur's old city walls, bazaars, and havelis glow in their iconic pink hue.

Jaipur's Craft Heritage

Jaipur is the epicentre of India's traditional crafts. The city and its surrounding villages — Sanganer, Bagru, and others — are home to master artisans practising block printing, Bandhani (tie-dye), Gota Patti embroidery, lacquer work, blue pottery, and precious gemstone cutting. These crafts have been refined over centuries and remain a vital part of Jaipur's identity.

Shopping in Jaipur

Jaipur's vibrant bazaars are legendary. Johari Bazaar for jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for textiles, Tripolia Bazaar for lacquer bangles, and Nehru Bazaar for juttis (traditional footwear) offer an immersive shopping experience unlike anywhere else in the world.
