Historical Roots
Founded in 1727, Jaipur was shaped by the Kachwaha Rajputs, whose patronage of arts and architecture created a city of extraordinary beauty. The city's grid-plan layout, inspired by the ancient Hindu text Shilpa Shastra, divided Jaipur into nine blocks — two for the state buildings and seven for the public.

The Manganiar and Langa communities are hereditary musicians whose performances have captivated audiences worldwide. Kathak dance, Ghoomar folk dance, and puppet shows (Kathputli) remain integral to Jaipur's cultural identity.

Jaipur celebrates with extraordinary fervour — Diwali illuminates the city, the Teej Festival honours the monsoon, and the Gangaur Festival celebrates marital devotion. The Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), held every January, has become the world's largest free literary event.
